During the Second World War, Marmite was prescribed as a cure for tropical diseases such as burning feet and beriberi. And a 1951 report on Deficiency Disease in Japanese Prison Camps stated that Marmite had proved effective in the treatment of scrotal dermatitis. The patients were presumably the original "Marmite Soldiers".
